Craig Harper has been appointed as the executive director of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators by the PAGE Board of Directors. Harper served as the interim executive director since late January following the unexpected death of Dr. Allene Magill, and had served as the PAGE director of communications since July 2015.

“Dr. Magill’s death was a shock to all of us associated with PAGE,” said Kelli De Guire, president of the PAGE Board of Directors. “Due to her leadership and clear direction with all staff, our organization is strong and well prepared to continue to fulfill its mission. Allene recruited Craig to PAGE because she believed he was the right person to succeed her when she retired, and the board believes that as well.”

Harper has provided support to PAGE staff in communications, administration, legislative services, professional learning and membership services. He has nearly 23 years of experience in school district administration with Dalton Public Schools in various roles, and most recently served as the district’s chief administrative officer.

“I’m blessed to have known Allene as a mentor and friend since we first worked together in Dalton,” Harper said. “Along with all of the PAGE staff, I am saddened and hurting because of Allene’s passing and the circumstances that lead to my appointment. I also know that she would want us to push forward and continue to do the important work of PAGE on behalf of students and educators. Along with all of our members, we will honor her legacy by focusing our efforts on the things that make public education better in Georgia.”

Harper holds a master’s degree in public administration from Valdosta State University and a bachelor’s degree in English with minors in communications and history from Milligan College. He is married to Kathy Harper, who teaches a kindergarten readiness class in Dalton. They have two sons, both students at Georgia Tech, and a daughter who will graduate from Dalton High School in May and will attend Milligan College.
